COVID-19 & Why I’m Not Writing About It

Before I start, yes, I realise the irony of that title. But since it seems to be the one topic everyone is talking and writing about, I thought I should at least throw out one blog entry explaining why I am not one of those people. So, here goes…

First, I’m not an expert on COVID-19. Not that I’m suggesting I’m an expert in anything I write about, but I do choose my content on here very carefully. I don’t write anything that I am not prepared to stand behind and justify. I don’t write anything that I feel I cannot defend. Of course, I have opinions on this virus, the pandemic, how world leaders have responded, etc. But even though this is my blog and I can write basically whatever I like, I’m not keen on just writing my opinion for the sake of it. I started this blog to write things that were meaningful, helpful and / or entertaining. And I just don’t believe that anything I could contribute on the topic of COVID-19 would be any of these things.

Second, everyone is talking and writing about it. So even if I took the time to conduct research and write up a piece that was meaningful, chances are, someone else has already covered it somewhere. I don’t want to be regurgitating what others have done. This blog is mine and completely original content. And I’d like it to stay that way.

Third and finally, it is not fun to write about. This pandemic is awful, tragic, heart wrenching and upsetting to both read and write about. All over the world people are dying, sick, angry, scared, confused, frustrated and panicking. COVID-19 is everywhere we look now. The last thing I want to do is add even more content to the internet about this distressing topic.

So, in case any of you were wondering the reasons why my blog was silent on this major issue, now you know. My blog is not the place to come for COVID-19 information or commentary. My blog, is a place you can come to read about other things if you’d like a distraction from the myriad of CVOID-19 stuff that’s out there.

I hope you all stay safe and well. Please take care of each other, use Skype and the phone to stay in touch with your loved ones, practice good hygiene and social distancing and stay hopeful. We will get through this and become stronger because of it.
